The Kansas basketball team started last season ranked #1 in the country. The Jayhawks had one of the most loaded rosters in college basketball, but the season ended up being a disappointment as Kansas was a four seed in the NCAA Tournament and had their worst Big 12 season in a long time. A big reason why the Jayhawks didn’t meet expectations was injury trouble, and Kevin McCullar Jr. was one key player that had to miss some time because of an injury, and he is still battling it.

Kevin McCullar Jr. is no longer with Kansas basketball as he is going pro, and he is currently in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine. He got his measurements, but he is not doing workouts because of his injury.

This is a big moment for McCullar Jr. as his college career is over and he is ready to take the next step in his career. He is happy to be in the position that he is in, but he knows there is still a lot of work to be done.

It’s definitely cool,” McCullar said, according to an article from The Kansas City Star. “It’s just the work that you put in trusting the process. It’s been a long journey. Nothing is promised. Just got to keep grinding and keep working.”

McCullar gave an update on his injury as well, and it sounds like things are going well for him in that regard.

“I got a knee scope and everything structurally is good,” McCullar said. “But yeah, I am going through the process now.”

Kevin McCullar Jr. also discussed how he feels like he’s ready to go right into the NBA and play. He thinks that Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Jalen Williams are two players that are similar to him.

“I feel like Williams and Jaquez are guys that came into the NBA ready to play right away,” McCullar said. “They are Swiss Army knife guys. Guys that can do everything on both ends of the floor. That’s how I feel I am.”

While in college, McCullar Jr. picked up a lot of experience playing in his long career. Because of that, he feels like is ready to make an impact at the next level from day one.

“Those guys were both immediate impacts,” He continued. “I feel like I’m that right now. I’ve played in enough big games. I’m an older guy. I’m ready to come in and contribute right away.”

Another player that McCullar Jr. discussed at the combine is Josh Hart. Hart and the New York Knicks are currently one win away from going to the Eastern Conference Finals, and McCullar Jr. has been watching a lot of him this postseason.

“I’ve been watching a ton of Josh Hart these playoffs,” McCullar added. “He’s affecting the game in so many different ways. He’s the guy we’re talking about, a guy who is versatile and competes on both ends of the floor. He just makes winning plays. He holds their team together.”

McCullar Jr. clearly has a lot of confidence in his game, and he is going to be an exciting player to watch next year in the NBA.
