Greg Olsen offers broadcasting advice to Tom Brady

Fox Sports has officially replaced Greg Olsen with Tom Brady as the network's lead in-game NFL analyst, but that reality didn't stop Olsen from offering Brady some advice as the living legend prepares to make his regular-season announcing debut this September. 

While speaking with USA Today's "Sports Seriously," Olsen revealed that he had his brain picked by Brady "a couple of weeks ago" regarding "what to expect and whatnot" while in Fox's No. 1 booth. 

"Every guy has their own journey in sports broadcasting," Olsen said, as shared by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. "I think everyone thinks it’s easy. I think everyone thinks getting up there and calling a live football game for three hours off the cuff, and being able to get in, get out, deal with the flow of the game, the players, the schemes, the terminology — there’s a lot going on during a game, and I think some guys really transition to it well and take to it pretty quickly. And other guys haven’t."

Brady and Fox agreed to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $375M back in 2022 and the seven-time Super Bowl champion spent portions of last season preparing for his new career. ESPN's Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are among noteworthy media members who previously made it known they're willing to help Brady leading up to Week 1 of the upcoming season. Earlier stories confirmed that Brady had reached out to veterans of the industry and has practiced calling games with lead play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt. 

As for Olsen, he will be relegated to Fox's No. 2 NFL announcing team that features play-by-play broadcaster Joe Davis. In his latest comments, Olsen somewhat interestingly offered no real prediction about what he thinks Brady will and/or won't be as a Week 1 broadcaster. 

"I don’t think there’s any real correlation between being a great player or an average player, and how that correlates to being a great broadcaster or an average broadcaster," Olsen added. "I think we’ve seen examples on both ends of that spectrum. So, we’ll see how it all plays out."

Olsen ended this past season as arguably the NFL's most popular in-game analyst among fans, but Fox clearly hopes Brady will prove to be a ratings draw unlike any other announcer in sports today. Brady will be on the call when the Dallas Cowboys play at the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 on Sept. 8.
