NHL bets: Two SOG props for Wednesday, March 6

There is quite a bit of value on the board for Wednesday's small NHL slate, particularly in the SOG market. We focus in there for tonight on the ice as we look to build a run on these player props.

1u: Nathan MacKinnon over 4.5 SOG (-104 FD)

Red Wings vs. Oilers, 9:30 p.m. ET, TNT

MacKinnon was the first name I wrote down when I started looking at this slate, and at this price I have to jump on it. Detroit is averaging north of 34 shots allowed per game on the road over the past month and a half, and now without Dylan Larkin, the Wings might struggle even more to control the flow of the game.

In six games without Larkin this season, the Red Wings have allowed 36.8 shots per game, and if Colorado even comes close to that number, MacKinnon is most surely involved.

Mac easily leads this team in shots on 5v5 play at home both lately and on the season, and he's over this 4.5 line in seven of his last 10 and six of his past eight at home.

Detroit is allowing the third-most shots to centers across the last 10 games, and Mac just piled up 11 SOG against them just two weeks ago. At -104, sign me up for five tonight.

.75u: Jakob Chychrun 4+ shots (+198 FD)

Senators vs. Ducks, 10 p.m. ET, BSW

By all means, play Jakob Chychrun at his 2.5 line, the -125 price is certainly bettable, but I'm opting to stretch up a number in favor of these odds.

The draw to Chychrun is quite simple: Anaheim allows the second-most shots per game to defensemen over the past 10 games, and this here defensemen sure loves the Ducks.

He has hit 4+ shots in five straight meetings, and again, that 2.5 floor is a great path here, as he has covered that in 13 of the last 15 games against Anaheim.

This history coincides nicely with a recent uptick for Chychrun, as he has logged nine shots on goal on 16 attempts over his past two games, and he has 4+ SOG in five of his last 10.

Chychrun is on Ottawa's second power-play unit, but that hasn't stopped him from leading the team in PP shots over the last 10 games. With the Ducks currently owning the distinction of the most penalized team in hockey, that's just another vote of confidence I have on the Senators defensemen to get pucks on net tonight.
