The agent of Inter Milan linked starlet Agustin Giay believes the 20-year-old is already “the best wingback in South America.”

The San Lorenzo player’s agent Leo Rodriguez spoke to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. He gave his thoughts on his client’s potential, and on the possibility of a move to Europe.

Inter are always keeping an eye out for players capable of playing in the wingback roles.

Those wide positions have been a key part of the Nerazzurri’s system for the last five years.

Coach Antonio Conte had switched Inter to playing a 3-5-2 system. And that is also the formation that the Nerazzurri’s current coach Simone Inzaghi uses.

There are of course big differences between how the two coaches actually use the shape.

However, one thing that certainly stays the same is that the flanks are very important. Both Inzaghi and Conte make similar demands of the players who play at wingback.

Having attack-minded wide players with pace and a certain sense of timing in the final third is important for Inzaghi.

And therefore, a key part of Inter’s transfer strategy for the past several years has involved scouting players for those positions.

This summer, it could be at right-wingback that the Nerazzurri will make a signing.

Denzel Dumfries could reportedly leave Inter if he does not sign a new contract.

Therefore, Inter’s search for a right-sided wingback is ongoing.

Agent Of Inter Milan Linked Agustin Giay – “He Is The Best Wingback In South America”

One player who has been linked to Inter recently is San Lorenzo wingback Giay.

The 20-year-old has reportedly been scouted by Nerazzurri Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin.

Baccin tends to be the man who heads up Inter’s scouting operation when it comes to South American players.

Giay’s agent said that “We’re talking about a young player who’s already been a starter for his club for two straight years.”

“In addition to being the captain of the Under-20 and Under-17 teams.”

“He can play at right-back,” noted the agent Rodriguez. “And at wingback. In some matches, he’s even been used as an interior midfielder.”

“For me he’s perfect as a wingback in Italian and European football,” he went on of Giay.

“He is full of running. He’s very good in one-on-one situations. He has technical quality.”

“I hear from all the scouts and Sporting Directors that he’s the best wingback in South America,” added Rodriguez.

As far as where there is interest in Giay, Rodriguez was coy. “I don’t want to talk about a specific club,” the agent said.

“There’s certainly no point hiding that some of the biggest clubs in Europe are following him, though.”

“At least seven teams in Italy,” said the agent.

“And then four or five in Spain. Three in the Premier League.”
